How to check if a Solana token is a rug pull

No check makes a token safe, but these seven catch most common rugs on Solana. You can do all of them yourself on an explorer.

  1. Mint authority revoked? If it is not revoked, the creator can print unlimited new supply and dump it.
  2. Freeze authority revoked? If not, the creator can freeze your token account so you cannot sell (a honeypot).
  3. Liquidity locked or burned? If the LP tokens sit in the deployer's wallet, they can pull the pool. pump.fun tokens that graduated have their liquidity handled by the platform; check the migration.
  4. Top holder concentration. Exclude the pool and known exchange accounts. If the top 10 holders own more than ~30–40%, a few wallets can crash the price.
  5. Bundled or sniper wallets. Many wallets that bought in the same first slot, funded from the same source, often belong to the deployer.
  6. Token-2022 extensions. Transfer fees, transfer hooks or a permanent delegate can tax or seize your tokens. Check the token program and extensions.
  7. Liquidity size and age. Tiny liquidity or a pool a few minutes old means one sell can move price wildly.

Free tools

RugCheck.xyz, DexScreener, Solscan and Birdeye all show parts of this. Use more than one.

RugCheck Lite runs a free scan on any mint (authorities, liquidity, holders, risk flags from public data). A downloadable full report is 1 USDC. It is a quick filter, not a guarantee.
